Birchrose Associates are proud to be partnering with a Legal 500 Law Firm to assist with their search for a Risk & Compliance Officer to join their team.

The Firm

Our client, a Legal 500 Law Firm, is seeking a Risk & Compliance Officer to join its established Risk & Compliance team based in South East London.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Risk & Compliance, this is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team responsible for ensuring the firm's regulatory and risk management framework remains robust and effective. Working across a broad range of compliance matters, you'll provide practical support and guidance to colleagues while helping to maintain the firm's high regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day advice to colleagues on AML, client onboarding, source of funds, GDPR and wider regulatory matters
  • Delivering risk and compliance training to new joiners and supporting the ongoing development of training materials
  • Monitoring compliance with the firm's AML procedures by carrying out source of funds and source of wealth audits, identifying trends and reporting findings
  • Drafting, reviewing and updating the firm's policies, procedures and internal controls to reflect regulatory developments
  • Supporting the firm's Lexcel, CQS, WIQS and other quality accreditations, including audit preparation and mandatory training administration
  • Managing professional indemnity claims and circumstances, including assessing reportable incidents, maintaining claim files and liaising with insurers where required
  • Maintaining key compliance registers relating to complaints, claims, conflicts and GDPR, producing reports and identifying recurring themes
  • Acting as an escalation point for junior members of the team and supporting the client onboarding function with more complex compliance queries
  • Carrying out electronic AML and conflict searches where required
  • Assisting with the firm's complaints process and liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure matters are handled appropriately
  • Managing SRA registrations for new joiners and leavers, as well as supporting the annual practising certificate renewal process
  • Conducting legal and regulatory research, monitoring legislative developments and assisting the Head of Risk & Compliance with reports, projects and wider departmental initiatives
  • Working closely with senior management, partners and business support teams to promote best practice and strengthen the firm's risk and compliance culture

Requirements

  • Previous experience within a Risk & Compliance role is essential
  • Experience within a law firm is advantageous
  • Good understanding of legal risk, AML, GDPR, regulatory compliance and professional standards applicable to law firms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience using case management and database systems
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business
  • Proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
