The Firm
Our client, a highly-regarded law firm that specialises in private client and real estate work, is looking for a Risk and Compliance Paralegal to join their BAU team. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position.
The Opportunity
As a Risk and Compliance Paralegal, you'll report to the Head of Risk and the Risk and Compliance Analyst. This role involves supporting the firm's compliance framework, including:
- Conducting timely conflict checks and assisting with analysis
- Supporting due diligence for new client take-ons and ongoing monitoring
- Reviewing new client and matter requests to ensure they align with legal and regulatory frameworks, such as SRA, AML, and Sanctions
- Advising on client due diligence requirements for specific situations
- Conducting due diligence research using online tools like Worldcheck and Experian
- Assisting with internal and external AML audits
- Helping with queries related to conflicts of interest, breaches, complaints, and external appointments
- Drafting risk-related policies, controls, and procedures
- Promoting awareness of compliance requirements within the firm
This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a law firm and develop a strong understanding of compliance regulations. The role is based in London, and the standard working hours are 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, though these may change during busy periods. Please note this role will be on site for the first 6 months and then hybrid working can be offered.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A strong academic background
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel
- The ability to quickly understand legal and regulatory frameworks related to conflicts of interest, Sanctions, and Anti-Money Laundering
- Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- A high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to work both collaboratively and under pressure
- A "can do" and proactive attitude
- Previous experience as a paralegal or in a similar role is desirable but not required
