The Firm

Our client is a multi-office law firm serving mid-market clients across a wide range of practice areas. The firm is known for its strong commitment to client service and continued investment in technology, including AI-driven systems and advanced document management platforms. With a collaborative culture and a focus on operational excellence, the firm is now looking to appoint an experienced Resource Manager to join its Central Operations function.

The Opportunity

This is a senior operational role within the Central Operations team, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with Heads of Department across the legal practices. The Resource Manager will play a critical role in overseeing financial, operational, and compliance functions to ensure smooth day-to-day running of the legal departments while supporting strategic growth. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and approving expense claims in line with firm policy
  • Supporting monthly forecasting, revenue monitoring, and annual budgeting processes
  • Reviewing departmental overheads and performance against budgets
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (including SRA, AML, Lexcel, CQS, and ISO 27001) and supporting audits and policy reviews
  • Overseeing day-to-day operational processes in collaboration with Business Support teams
  • Improving efficiency through centralised and standardised procedures
  • Setting department and team structures and organising weekly capacity and partner meetings
  • Monitoring matter statuses and ensuring timely updates
  • Approving access to departmental mailboxes and holiday requests
  • Supporting performance management through data analysis and KPI monitoring
  • Handling operational issues, staff concerns, and complaints where required
  • Supporting recruitment planning for trainees, apprentices, and NQs
  • Managing training programmes to ensure consistent understanding of firm-wide metrics and processes
  • Co-ordinating partner onboarding and offboarding, including client and matter transitions
  • Acting as a key liaison between legal departments and Finance, Risk, IT, and other support teams
  • Supporting the implementation of new IT systems and platforms

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading teams within a professional services environment, ideally within a law firm
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercially minded, highly organised, and detail-oriented
  • Experience with financial and document management systems (Elite 3E, iManage or NetDocs preferred)
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new systems
