Job Description
The Organisation
Our client is a renowned firm with a focus on private wealth and real estate, along with strong corporate, commercial, and dispute resolution teams. They work with individuals, families, and businesses on a wide range of complex matters. This process-driven role is for a proactive and competent Legal Biller within the Finance department's Revenue Control team. It reports to the Billing Supervisor.
The Opportunity
- Take ownership of the billing process from end-to-end, including attending monthly WIP meetings, generating reports, initiating and running proformas, editing proformas, and reviewing and posting invoices in line with the firm's policies and HMRC/SRA rules
- Distribute invoices internally and externally (to Partners, Fee Earners, Secretaries, and Clients) and produce bespoke invoice narratives
- Process credit notes (in line with internal policies), as well as WIP and disbursement transfers and write-offs
- Manage complex invoices, including composite invoices, and administer specific invoicing arrangements
- Handle internal billing queries professionally, manage allocated tasks and queries within the Finance inbox, and administer relevant billing data on client and matter files
- Liaise with the Compliance team for file administration and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations
- Liaise proactively with legal teams, Fee Earners, Executive Assistants, and Legal Secretaries for billing instructions, and assist with the transition of billing responsibilities to the Billing team
- Identify areas for improvement, propose solutions, and participate in any change management initiatives to streamline and enhance billing-related processes
- Provide cover for other members of the team as and when required and undertake any other tasks defined by the Billing Supervisor
Requirements
- Recent relevant experience within a similar role, gained within a law firm or another professional services firm
- Strong understanding of billing processes and financial management
- Knowledge of HMRC and SRA rules
- Numerate / confident with numbers and budgeting
- Experience with Elite 3E and e-billing is desirable but not essential
