The Opportunity
This is a full-time position for a Junior Risk and Compliance Officer to join the Risk and Compliance department, reporting to the Risk and Compliance Manager. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative and professional support to the team.
You will:
- Act as point of contact to manage relationship with panel solicitors when instructed
- Assist in the administration of the firm's training in risk management and compliance
- Assist in the drafting and maintenance of firm policies
- Assist in relation to the notification of professional indemnity claims
- Assist in monitoring compliance of the firm's AML/onboarding procedures through file audits and reporting on trends
- Assist the team in dealing with complaints from clients
- Conduct ad-hoc research in all areas of risk management
- Conducting searches carrying out electronic AML and conflict checks
- Help maintain the firm's accreditations (e.g., Lexcel, CQS, WIQS) through administration of training and audit preparations
- Keep up to date with legal and regulatory information and changes
- Liaise with other members of the Management Team in relation to projects
- Manage new joiners' registration/departures on mySRA and other relevant sites
- Maintain and update various central registers (such as complaints, claims, GDPR and conflicts)
- Respond to general compliance questions from colleagues received into the Risk and Compliance inbox (such as queries relating to client onboarding, source of funds checks and GDPR)
- Report to and liaise with the firm's professional indemnity insurer where necessary
The normal working hours are 9am to 5.30pm.
Requirements
- Previous relevant experience and an understanding of risk and compliance processes are essential
- Knowledge of the law, regulation, and professional standards applicable to a law firm
- Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Comfortable working within case management and database systems
- Requires a bright, energetic and enthusiastic team player
- A professional approach, along with excellent communication skills and discretion is necessary
- Requires resilience and composure in dealing with all situations
- Experience in the legal sector is an advantage
