Opportunity for a Costs Associate to join a leading litigation-only law firm in London.

The firm is the UK's largest litigation-only practice, specialising exclusively in high-value and complex disputes for corporates and individuals. With more than 450 staff, including over 90 partners, the firm is ranked Tier 1 in a number of core practice areas, including claimant personal injury and international travel litigation.

The Opportunity

The firm's Costs team is now seeking a qualified Costs Lawyer to join its London office, supporting its Injury departments.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist in-house costs function within a market-leading disputes practice.

The role will involve a broad range of contentious and advisory costs work, including:

Advisory and management:

  • Advising internally on costs issues and strategy
  • Preparing costs budgets and attending Costs Management Hearings
  • Active costs management and budget monitoring (including use of costs software)
  • Advising on costs offers and funding/retainer documentation

Drafting and advocacy:

  • Preparing breakdowns for negotiation
  • Drafting formal bills of costs
  • Managing the detailed assessment process, including attendance at hearings and associated advocacy

You will also liaise with external Costs Lawyers where required, supervise junior team members, deliver internal training on costs developments, and contribute to business planning within the department.

Requirements

  • Qualified Costs Lawyer with 4 - 8 PQE
  • Strong experience in costs budgeting, drafting and detailed assessment
  • Confident advocate with experience attending hearings
