The London office is a key hub within the firm's international network and works closely with colleagues across the US, Europe and other global offices.

The Opportunity


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Conflicts Staff Lawyer to join the firm's global Conflicts and New Business team. Based in London, this role forms part of an internationally connected function responsible for managing conflicts clearance and new business intake across multiple jurisdictions.

Working closely with Partners, Associates and professional support teams across global offices, you will provide clear and commercially focused advice on conflicts and onboarding matters. The Conflicts team plays a key role as a business-enabling function, balancing effective risk management with the commercial needs of the firm.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and analysing conflicts reports to identify potential conflicts of interest and wider business issues
  • Conducting detailed corporate and regulatory research using external databases to verify new clients and matter parties
  • Preparing conflicts summaries for Partners outlining identified issues and proposed resolutions, including conflict waivers and ethical screens
  • Reviewing and approving new client and matter intake forms in line with firm policies and procedures
  • Advising Partners, Associates and support teams on new business intake policies and procedural requirements
  • Drafting engagement letters, conflict waivers and ethical screens where required
  • Supporting the onboarding process for lateral Partners and Associates from a conflicts and intake perspective
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to knowledge sharing and process improvement initiatives
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant professional conduct rules and conflicts regulations across jurisdictions

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer admitted to a recognised law society or bar in a jurisdiction where the firm operates
  • Strong working knowledge of professional conduct rules, including the SRA Code of Conduct and ABA Model Rules
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Strong legal analytical skills and sound judgement
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance risk with business priorities
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Discreet and trustworthy, with the ability to handle highly confidential information
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable experience includes:

  • Previous conflicts or new business intake experience within a US or international law firm
  • Experience using corporate research and compliance screening tools such as CapitalIQ, Bureau van Dijk or WorldCheck
  • Experience working with enterprise conflicts systems such as Intapp Open
  • Knowledge of anti-money laundering requirements
  • Experience reviewing engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines
